MARK SACHS
My fascination with photography first began when I was 10. Armed with my new Kodak Instamatic, my 5-speed bicycle (complete with a sissy-bar and yellow banana seat) and enough allowance money to get my film developed at Hook’s Drugs - my life-long sense of adventure and curiosity was officially launched. The pictures were “less than stellar”, but for a little kid, my new super-powers of being able to freeze time were larger than life.
Fast-forward; cameras become more powerful, my interests shift towards outdoor activities, raising a family and building a successful career in Sales and Marketing. For the next several decades, my travels take me around the world to some incredible locations, yet my pictures failed to capture what my memory did. Sharing pictures with friends and family were incredibly frustrating. The reactions were more like “Oh” instead of “Wow”. For someone with excellent communication skills, my photographs failed. This frustration eventually led to a pivotal moment for me, when I realized I needed to invest the necessary time and resources to develop my skills. Soon, my patience , perspective and passion would become aligned and the gratification from these efforts further fueled my commitment. My “why” was this passion to share my unique perspective with my audience, re-creating the experience I had when first encountering the image. I wanted them to feel, see and experience; to be stopped dead in their tracks and take notice, much like I was.
That was 15 years ago. Since then, I have worked diligently pursuing photography as a passion. My unique perspective has been shaped by a life-long journey of insatiable curiosity, keen sense of adventure and developing my photographic skills in order to communicate what I previously had struggled to.
My website, portfolio and shop includes some of my favorite images. I’ve been humbled in receiving recognition from international competitions (Tamron and Westcott) along with numerous state and local awards. My images have also appeared on a bill-board, promotional wine-bottle and numerous corporate websites.
Current areas of focus are Landscape, Travel, Corporate Projects and Portraits.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my work.
Regards,
Mark
